Byron's spoons

Handmade live time quality spoons and Spatulas

Text Box: Byron Kelley developed his craft by accident-”my wife, Mary Kay makes large amounts of candy for family and friends. She would ask me to help stir the candy but the handles of her small wooden spoons didn’t fit my hand. I had the idea to make my own spoon from a heavy oak coffee table we didn’t need. I sawed and hand finished my first spoon with a large handle from that table. It worked so much better…..not only was it useful and practical, it was beautiful!”
Text Box: Byron began making spoons for relatives. At first he worked with a small hand rasp and sandpaper while he sat in his Mangum Oil truck waiting to load and unload propane. He spends a lot of time searching for rare and exotic woods crafting his spoons from oak, walnut, pecan, cherry, Birdseye maple and from Africa, purple heart and zebrawood.

Text Box: “The wood grain and design are one, the texture and surface are inviting to the touch. I am making even more spoons and spatulas now that I have retired, at last count, have crafted over 1600. My spoons have found homes as far away as Hawaii, Canada, England, Germany and the Netherlands”
