Mangum Veteran Memorial Wall

“Gone-But Not Forgotten”

A tribute to Veterans of all major conflicts, starting with WWI & continuing through the Persian Gulf Era. Focal point of the wall is the “Lady Liberty” kneeling over the grave of a  fallen comrade. This sculpture was the inspiration of Oklahoma artist Sal Lucero Sr.

The American Legion, Paul Garrett Post 121, of Mangum, Oklahoma, is in the process of developing a Memorial Wall dedicated to memory of all who have served this great country; especially, those who made the greatest sacrifice in giving their life for the defense of freedom.

The Wall consists of over 1400 square feet of sculptured space, that will depict scenes representing WWI, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Granada, Panama, and Persian Gulf.

As mentioned, the focal point of the wall is the “Lady Liberty” kneeling over the grave of a fallen comrade. Recently completed are the sculptures for WWI and WWII which have been finished and placed on the wall. Currently the sculptures for Korea and Vietnam are being finalized and in the process of being displayed on the wall. The design and creation of these sculptures are by Sal Lucero Sr. He is also overseeing the construction of the wall.

This wall is also a reminder to future generations that freedom is not free. To enjoy the gifts of freedom guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States requires that its citizens must continue to choose to serve in defending this nation from all who would try to overthrow or destroy our way of life.

Any Co-Op, business,  organization or individual wishing to become Memorial Wall sponsor may send their contribution to the American Legion, 203 S. Oklahoma, Mangum, OK 73554.
