After a leisurely breakfast prepare to explore historic downtown Mangum.  A great place to start is the Old Greer County Museum & Hall of Fame.  Throughout this museum are photos and memorabilia of the early pioneers with over 60 rooms of artifacts and an authentic western dugout.  Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children, open Thur., Fri., & Sat. call 580-782-2851.

Shopping around the square is fun and easy.  Diagonally across from the Museum a walk through the Hall of Fame will take you to Artists Alley.  Four galleries await your inspection with everything from locally inspired pencil and pen & ink western and equine art at the OKCowby Art Studio to a wide collection of original wildlife and bone art at the Rockin’T Studio.  If your interests run to clay and different types of pottery try out Darka Designs for mosaics and Pleasant Nest Pottery for hand thrown pieces.  Just across the street from the galleries is Flowers Unlimited featuring fresh and faux flowers, gifts and novelties.

 

If you’ve worked up an appetite you’ll want to consider:

The famous Hamburger Inn & Evening Edition, making fabulous burgers for over 75 years.  Located on the east side of the courthouse at 124 S. Pennsylvania, 580-782-5254.

On the north side of the square you’ll find Gabriel’s Restaurant serving American favorites and Mexican food.  on 101 E. Jefferson, 580-782-5511.

For those who crave fine Mexican food with an extensive menu then El Charro is the place for you, 1101 N. Louis Tittle Ave, 580-782-2221.

 

It’s afternoon and it’s time to “play with clay” on Artists Alley.  You can check in at 1:00 pm at Pleasant Nest Pottery for an afternoon of creative expression in clay.  This hands-on workshop includes demonstrations and instruction on wheel-thrown, and hand-built pottery plus mosaics.  Instructors Norma and Denise will assist you in creating your own special hand built pottery or mosaic project.  Artwork will be completed by 4:00 pm and will be fired and shipped within 30 days to your address.

Cost is $40 per person and includes instruction, materials, glazes and firing.  Shipping is extra.  112 Artists Alley, 580-706-0118, advance reservations are appreciated. 

 

Time for a trip to Café Latte Da located directly across from the Court House at 115 S. Oklahoma, where you will find coffee, espresso, lattes and other hot and cold beverages.

 

Dinner time and you can go to one of the above mentioned restaurants for a wonderful meal.

Go back to the MangumwhiteHouse Bed & Breakfast for a relaxing evening inside, on the porch or sitting outside and then have a good night sleep.
